“You’ll love it” he said. “Yeah right” I thought! But Matt’s enthusiasm and encouragement gave me the nudge I needed to sign up to HYROX doubles event and I’m so glad I did. Throughout the training Matt challenged and pushed me to achieve something beyond my comfort zone. He gave me not only the technical support I needed but also the motivational push to do an event I never thought I could or would do. On the event day itself Matt took time to warm us up and run through each station and cheered us on the whole way which was awesome. I got to compete with a great bunch of women from Revive who were all amazing and Matt inspired and believed in us all. He was right about loving it and I’ll be back for more!

“I WAS AMAZED I COMPLETED HYROX!”

Although I was super sporty growing up and stayed quite active since, I haven’t trained in a gym situation for years! Being quite a newbie to the training scene, when Matt asked if I’d like to give Hyrox a go, I was reluctant, to say the least! In fact I think I said ‘go away’ or words to that effect!

But as he does, and with his unrelenting belief in everyone’s ability to push themselves out of their super cosy comfort zones, he inspired me and made it seem perfectly doable… so I found myself at 11.30pm one night frantically signing up before my brain realised what I was doing! Matt poured all his energy into creating a brilliant team training environment, instilling grit, determination and spirit into all of us… no matter how much we groaned at him along the way!

He set up a WhatsApp group and gave us homework every week to make sure we were progressing, and he even set up a track day at an athletics club for us to do sprint training. I suddenly found myself feeling so much stronger. I’d gone from not being able to do 1 lunge with knee to floor, to doing 100m with a 10kg sandbag! I was pushing and pulling weights that a few months before I wouldn’t dream of shifting, I’d lost a decent few pounds and was able to run 16km with surprisingly little effort by the time we reached race week, and I was excited to go!

On race day, Matt had already competed himself but he was there, ready for us when we all arrived. He settled my nerves and warmed me up so I was totally ready to get on that start line… actually smiling! As I crossed the finish line I was amazed I’d completed it by myself, something that a few months ago, I would never have been able to do. Matts training sessions are carefully planned and perfectly executed to get you to your goals, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of Revive’s Hyrox team!

Now I seem to be hooked and wanting to go for a PB at the next one! Bring on the next season of training, I can’t wait to see how we all do!! 💪🏼 Oh, and good luck at the world championships in Vegas Matt!! 👊🏼

When Matt told me he was competing in Hyrox and explained what it was I thought he was mad and there was no way I would be capable of doing anything like that!…..6 months later and I was competing in the doubles in London and even finishing in the top 30 for our age group…. Matts training was hard work, brutal but fun and challenging! Every detail was covered.. from how many runs/ how far , right down to how to eat and rest ready for the big day! So pleased he talked me into it 💪🏼 💪🏼

I’ve never stuck to the normal gym routine as I find them boring and the classes all seemed the same. Matt is an excellent, knowledgable and friendly trainer and he really motivates and pushes you. Every class is different with lots of variations of exercises. I’m now the fittest I have been in years and loving it, can not recommend him enough.

Revive’s new workout studio is amazing, such a lovely location that always brings a smile to me as I drive past horses, spot a bird of prey and wildlife in the fields on the country lane in. Always looking for new and interesting ways to train us, Matt’s daily group sessions are never boring, never the same and are carefully planned to provide a complete body workout through the week. Be careful, they become addictive! Having been a 2 session a week girl I now find myself looking forward to 4 or 5 sessions, all for the same price! The Saturday team challenge session is my highlight of the week.

“MATT POURS EVERY OUNCE OF ENERGY HE HAS INTO REVIVE”!!

I started training with Matt back in November 2021, thinking I was pretty strong and pretty fit. The first few sessions were hard, and made me realise I had a long way to go on my strength and fitness! When my mate Claudia asked me to be her partner for Hyrox, I initially felt pretty reticent, as I wasn't sure I would be able to keep up with her, and didn't know whether I had enough discipline to train for something again (having just finished a gruelling summer of training for London Marathon!). However, I said yes, and from the first training session, knew I'd made the right call.

The training sessions were perfectly tailored to 'hone our craft' - from introducing us to slightly different stations like broad jump burpees, to refining techniques on the ski-erg, Matt had us covered. We were constantly encouraged, supported, listened to, and pushed. Weekly training schedules were posted in our group chat, and morale was high on Whatsapp as we shared our training experiences. When it came to the day itself, I had no idea what to expect, and was pretty blown away by the vibe of the event. A huge space, a lot of noise, loads of people, and high, high energy! But I felt well prepared, physically and mentally, all thanks to Matt, and think our performance reflected this - we also spent pretty much the entire event grinning from ear to ear, which says a lot when you are mid sled push!

It is no understatement to say that Matt pours every ounce of energy he has into Revive, and the clients he has. His ambition for us, and for the gym, is limitless, and I feel really grateful to be trained by someone who truly believes in every single person who sets foot in his gym. My Hyrox journey is one I will never forget, and I owe that amazing experience to Matt.

When Matt first suggested Hyrox I laughed it off because it sounded completely unachievable, but after much encouragement I signed up with a friend in the pairs and it was the best decision.

Over the first few weeks I was still fairly dubious but when it came to our first run-through, I was surprised not only by the fact we managed to complete it, but that we really enjoyed it too. Over the next few months leading up to the event we continued to build our engines and honed our techniques for the various stations, and although the training was really tough it was always genuinely fun. There was always a buzz at the sessions and our Hyrox WhatsApp group was such a lovely and supportive bonus.

Matt was so encouraging throughout and was always on hand for any question or worry you might have, and on the big day he took us through a warm up and pre-race chat to help calm any nerves and ensure we did enjoy the day. Matt completely believed in us from the very beginning and throughout and it was amazing to see how much we all achieved because of it.

Doing Hyrox with Matt and team Revive was a truly fantastic experience!

“JOINING REVIVE WAS A GAMECHANGER FOR ME”

I have been training regularly with Matt on a 1-2-1 basis for a number of years. Over this period both my strength and fitness have improved hugely. Matt tailors every session to help me achieve long term sustainable benefits rather than short term gains that do not last. Every time a train with Matt he pushes me to achieve more than I think I can, and so in addition to improved fitness and strength, I come away from every session with a huge sense of achievement and a positive mental attitude. If you want an easy time, then training with Matt is not for you! But if you want to improve both your physical health and mental wellbeing at a pace that is appropriate for you, then I can’t recommend Matt enough.
